Tarifa, Spain and Canary Islands

I stayed in Tarifa as there is a high speed ferry to Morocco (another post) that I could use for my day trip yesterday.

First impression was Tarifa was a little grittier than other towns I’ve been in, and that the commercial port dominated the view of the water from where I was staying.

But I took a long walk this morning, and just around the corner was very pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful long golden beach (I read 5 miles). There were crashing waves, and lots of surfers and windsurfers, and a paved pathway for a good stretch of it.

The town has a young surfer crowd that shops and cafes cater to, so it is definitely different than the doddery Nerja scene! Unfortunately I had some of the young partiers staying next door in the hotel last night, and didn’t appreciate their nocturnal comings and goings. Thankfully it was just for Saturday night.
